According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Johannes Mehserle, the BART police officer who shot Oscar Grant point-blank on a transit platform in January of last year was sentenced to two years, plus time served. Which means in about a year, he'll be eligible for release.
Just to put that in perspective, you can get a longer sentence in California for illegally selling marijuana.
