Jeremy Jacobs has obtained a video of New York Republican gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino again showing off his considerable emotional depth and maturity at a campaign stop on March 26 in Tappan, New York:
The questioner asks, "If you were the chief executive of New York, what would your response be to the attorney general of the United States deciding to hold terrorist trials in Manhattan?" Presumably referring to the administration's plan to try the alleged 9/11 plotters in federal courts. There are currently trials of terrorist suspects occurring in Manhattan, as we speak. Somehow, the battered residents of a borough Paladino sees as "home to smug, self-important, pampered liberal elitists" persevere.
The audio isn't great, but Paladino appears to say, "Fuck him, fuck him. I'll reopen Guantanamo if he tries to close it. These are prisoners of war. You're not going to spend $250 million, to a show, a theatrical profession on the backs of taxpayers, and give these people rights hard-working Americans work for every day. ... We don't want his terrorists here; we're not interested in that nonsense. We're sensitive to 9/11; we're sensitive to what happened," Paladino says. "I know tragedy," he adds. Paladino doesn't need the money, but there's probably a job waiting for him at Keep America Safe in the likely event he doesn't become New York's governor.
Later, Paladino expresses support for a "constitutional convention," because conservatives love the Constitution so much that they can't wait to change all the parts they don't like.
UPDATE: Josh Barro points out that Paladino was likely referring to a New York State constitutional convention, which happens fairly frequently, because every twenty years New York state votes on whether or not to have one.
