Fox News shows off its characteristic disdain for out-of-touch Hollywood elites by publishing Pamela Anderson's views on immigration, exclusive to Fox News except for them having been published on her blog first. The Daily Caller was right on their heels.
"I’m an immigrant myself. It was a tough road to come to America and work. The American Dream is seductive, but there is a legal way to do it and there would be more jobs here for people if it was honored," she wrote. "There is something about the process that has to be honored—and respected."
Anderson also feels that we need to "get back on the farm and teach our kids that entry level positions in the work force start with manual labor."
Yeah. So while Fox News is unabashedly anti-immigrant, Anderson, who became a citizen in 2004 really just offers a good example of how unfair and counterproductive our current immigration system is. Basically we waste piles of money trying to prevent migrants who are willing to risk death to come here and work punishing low-wage jobs while anyone wealthy and connected pretty much has an easy ride. Many of these people don't even want to become citizens, but the high level of security at the border interrupts the cycle of migration by making it easier just to stick around.
Instead of having an immigration policy that is more responsive to the demands of the labor market, prevents workers from being exploited by unscrupulous employers, and just generally gives the government more actual control over its own borders, we have an immigration policy that caters to people like Pamela Anderson, who unsurprisingly thinks it's awesome.
