I've posted over at Greg's place about the Tim Pawlenty camp's response to my story on his minority homeowner's initiative, but I wanted to post spokesman Alex Conant's statement here too for the record:
This program was independently set up by the MN state housing agency and did not make any mention of Sharia Law on its face, but was later described by critics as accommodating it. As soon as Gov. Pawlenty became aware of the issue, he personally ordered it shut it down. Fortunately, only about three people actually used the program before it was terminated at the Governor's direction.
I haven't seen any evidence of this other than than this statement, the MFHA spokesman told me the whole thing fizzled out because there weren't enough buyers. I also think it's a shame that an attempt at good governance is a political liability for a Republican if it makes you look like you're tolerant of Muslims.
