If you had taken me aside in December of 2001 and explained that come February of 2009, we wouldn't have found Osama bin Laden and, more than that, wouldn't really seem to care, I'd have found that fairly laughable. And maybe Ahab would forget all about his whale and open a nice little pub by the seashore. But here we are. Which is all some throat clearing to recommend Steve Coll's post speculating on the whereabouts of the shy mastermind. Whether we catch bin Laden or not, presumably some day historians will be able to recreate the last few years of his life, and I'm looking forward to those books.
