The state of play: McCain funded Rashid Khalidi's presumably sinister scholarship to the tune of about half a million dollars. Reports that the money went to help Khalidi hollow out the base of a volcano for his "Project Golem" remain unconfirmed. Meanwhile, Barack Obama said -- in public! -- they'd had interesting conversations at various social events. Andy McCarthy -- who's been a fascinating study in accelerating derangement over the course of the election -- comments:
Whatever typically infurating dalliances McCain may have had with Khalidi and ACORN, they don't compare to the depth of relationship that Obama had with Khalidi and ACORN — and like-minded Leftists. It's not even close. McCain, moreover, is an authentic American hero who loves our country as it is and would essentially preserve it. Obama is an untried radical who sees our country as fundamentally flawed (America's "soul," Michelle Obama tells us, "is broken" and can only be healed by Obama) and loves not America but a vision of what America could be once he's through imposing "redistributive change" and "social justice."Presumably, McCain's grants to Khalidi were part of some elaborate sting operation, while Obama's gracious mention of the interesting and polite disagreements he'd had with Khalidi were actually a series of coded instructions that activated terrorist sleeper cells in Madrid, Ottawa, and Eastern Montana. Meanwhile, having wasted your time reading McCarthy's rant, go buy The Iron Cage: The Story of the Palestinian Struggle for Statehood, which is an interesting empirical work that will not be a waste of your time. As Ia Black of the Guardian explains, it's that rare book that "restores the Palestinians to something more than victims, acknowledging that for all their disadvantages, they have played their role and can (and must) still do so to determine their own fate."So far, efforts to push the book today have lifted its sales rank to #1 in Amazon's Israel section and #509 in their total catalog. I'd like to see it hit the Top 20.
