Yet another reason to want John Edwards at the top of the ticket in 2008 is that the entire South will be voting for Senate, and we'll want the party to look Dixie-friendly. In North Carolina, popular Democratic Governor Mike Easley will be finishing his last term, and maybe he'll run against Elizabeth Dole. Virginia, Arkansas, and Louisiana are also likely to see competitive races, and retirements could put West Virginia and even Mississippi in play.
