London, Thursday 3 May 2007 – Washington-based political commentator and journalist, Michael Tomasky, has been appointed editor of Guardian America, the Guardian's US website. He takes up his new post on 7 May and will be responsible for developing the Guardian's online presence in America.
Immediate plans for the site include enhanced coverage of American news stories, a greater focus on international stories of key interest to a US audience and the development of an America-focused front page for the site, guardianamerica.com. The Guardian's award-winning Comment is free blog will also expand its US coverage with more comment and analysis on US issues and more US bloggers.
