I missed the first part of Paul's speech but he sounds deranged when I tune in. He says the gold standard is good because when you print too much money it loses its value. Yes, because inflation is a massive problem in the U.S. It gets less coherent from there. But then he starts complaining about Tim Russert cutting him off. This leads into an awesome condemnation of the history of the CIA. Someone has been reading Legacy of Ashes. "Great empires succumb to the temptation to spread themselves too widely... they are very rarely conquered." That's a good argument. "Let's come home and save the money" which he says next is a good idea, but not the best politics... And I think I just heard him say that the abolishing the federal reserve would save enough money to eliminate the income tax. People eventually start chanting "Live Free or Die." "If nothing else" he hopes that his campaign promotes the idea that economic and personal freedom are inseparable. Lots more abstract riffing on freedom... "Government just plain doesn't work." Now he's complaining about Federal aid to victims of Katrina. If you looked up the definition of Rambling in a (I guess online) dictionary there'd be a video of this speech. Mentions the Patriot act to large boos. Apparently it made us poorer. I hate it as much as the next liberal, but seriously? I keep zoning out and then coming back to realize he's still talking. --Sam Boyd
