Over at The Atlantic, that's Ross Douthat's fun idea:
He could govern from the center-left and try to revive the Rockefeller-Republican brand for a new era of Democratic dominance. Or he could govern from the right, picking fights with blue-state interest groups in the hopes of retooling his image with conservatives in time for the 2016 Presidential race. (He’d only be 70 – younger than McCain!)Before great masses of New Yorkers recoil in horror, I'd add that considering the fact that Rudy Giuliani was too busy turning a buck in his consulting business to attend meetings of the Iraq Study Group in 2006, I doubt actually governing a state would rise to the level of celebrity he now expects from politics. Albany just isn't a very glittery place. --Dana Goldstein
