Scott believes SATC is completely devoid of artistic merit. I'm not here to make a claim for the series as high art, but I will admit I enjoyed it as a television show, all the while feeling very conflicted about its portrayal of urban, professional women. The characters' obsession with clothes, shoes, closets, jewelery, and huge apartments provides fun eye candy, but ultimately encourages -- especially in younger fans -- a kind of rank, aspirational materialism that fulfills negative stereotypes about women. In any case, last night I saw the film. What follows is my list of conventional wisdom misconceptions about SATC rebuked. The rest of this post is after the jump because it contains spoilers.
