RIP, Maria Leavey. My interactions with her were limited, but they never bespoke anything but generosity, kindness, and tireless conviction on her part. I remember reading Abraham Joshua Heschel's death on a Saturday described as a "Sabbath kiss." I know Thomas jefferson died on the 4th of July. And so it was with Maria, who died just as the Democratic Congress she'd fought for prepared to be sworn in. Her passing was as progressive as her life.
