Ogged writes, "A good sandwich is, indeed, unbeatable. And the dearth of good sandwich shops is one way in which the Bay Area is inferior to any other place I've lived." Dude. Try DC. The place is nothing but sandwich shops, and still manages to have nothing in the way of distinctive, much less transcendent, sandwiches (the one exception being those rare days when Galileo opens up its grill). Last month, Esquire had a best sandwiches in the country feature, and DC got no love. This month, they had reader reactions, in which they sent in their nominations, and DC got..no love. And you know what? I can't argue with that. DC's got some good fine dining, but so far as lunch or midrange cuisine goes, it's a bit of a wasteland. And yes, anyone who disagrees with this should feel free to offer up suggestions in comments.(Delicious looking photo used under a Creative Commons license from Natmandu.)
