Like Kate Steadman, I don't like sweet breakfasts. They always seems to just remind my stomach that it would like an actual meal made out of things like protein and the still-beating heart of the bear that threatened my family. As such, feed me a waffle and I'm ready for some tacos. But feed me some tacos and I feel like, well, I just ate some tacos for breakfast. Which makes breakfast stressful: Normal foods leave me too hungry, heavy foods leave me too full. I'm like Goldilocks with my morning meal.So I was glad to see Mark Bittman come out for savory breakfasts today. Sadly, none of his ideas look very good to me. But Aaron Kagan, one of my favorite food bloggers, has long been on the savory breakfast kick, and his series on salted, eggy, peppered oatmeal is pretty mouthwatering. Maybe I'll try that.
