An African-American audience member asked the candidates what kind of Supreme Court justices they'd appoint. The moderator amends the question to explicitly include where their appointees would stand on abortion. As Adele mentioned, Clinton brought the question around to privacy. Other candidates had some interesting responses as well.
Obama framed his answer somewhat differently as well, saying he would prioritize "life experience," and appoint judges "who know what it means to be from the outside – those are the people I would appoint to the Supreme Court." Edwards took a similar tack, mentioning growing up in the segregated South and that he would appoint judges that had life experiences that demonstrated "the strength we need in the Supreme Court." Running with the racial dimension of this question is a curious choice for both candidates.
