Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, as quoted by the Las Vegas Sun:
"If I ran for office, I would be a proud younger brother of George W. Bush and a proud son of George H.W. Bush."
George W. Bush left office with abysmal approval ratings, but there's no reason to think that this would harm a future iteration of "Bush for President." Americans have a fairly short political memory, and smart politicians can avoid the baggage of their history. After a string of failures and embarrassments, Richard Nixon left political life in 1962, only to return in six years for a successful presidential bid. As a Republican in the aftermath of Nixon and Watergate, Ronald Reagan shouldn't have had a shot at the presidency. But, with the help of a poor economy and a feckless incumbent, he won in a landslide.
The point is that voters are quick to forget, and it's entirely possible Jeb Bush will emerge as a viable candidate, especially if Obama wins re-election next year. At a certain point, unfortunately, it simply won't matter that his brother destroyed two countries, tortured people, and ruined an economy.
