Commentary's Jennifer Rubin celebrates the following good news:
Some 52 percent of people say torture can be at least sometimes justified to obtain information about terrorist activities from suspects, an increase from 38 percent in 2005 when the AP last asked the question. More than two-thirds of Republicans say torture can be justified compared with just over a third of Democrats.Rubin calls this a victory for Dick Cheney, and in a way I suppose it is; he has frightened a lot of people into supporting barbaric acts. But just to be clear, Rubin is celebrating torture with this post, saying it's great news that a little over half of Americans support the brutalization of detainees. There was a time when the Right tried to deny that Bush administration's practices are torture. Now Rubin is celebrating American support for torture as the "start of the GOP comeback trail." Moral clarity at its finest.
