Spanish prosecutors are recommending against going forward with an investigation into whether or not Bush administration officials sanctioned torture at Guantanamo Bay, according to the Associated Press. While the judge could order the investigation to go forward anyway, the AP describes that outcome as "highly unusual." I disagree with many of prosecutor Candido Conde-Pumpido's arguments for recommending against the investigation, but this one is hard to disagree with:
"If there is a reason to file a complaint against these people, it should be done before local courts with jurisdiction, in other words in the United States," he said.
Of course, that wouldn't be sensible.
