The black infant mortality rate in some Florida counties is higher than that in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Russia, and Saudi Arabia, according to the state's health department. Fifteen black newborns out of every 1,000 die, compared to 4 out of every 1,000 white infants. This Tallahassee Democrat report is light on explanations, and doesn't probe the lack of access to quality, nearby prenatal care for many low-income women. But this is all part of the progressive reproductive rights platform -- the right to medical care for pregnant women.
