Is the feminist movement united around the idea of Hillary as V.P? Far from it, as I wrote this morning. And here's more evidence, from a Financial Times interview with Gloria Steinem:
She believes women will vote for Obama even if Clinton doesn’t get the much-mooted consolation prize of the vice-president’s spot on the Democratic ticket -- a job Steinem doesn’t think is good enough for her anyway. Why? “It’s not an independent position, to put it mildly. I would rather see her as the president of the Senate.”
Steinem says "president of the Senate," but I think what she actually means is that Hillary should be the Senate Leader -- the Senate president is actually the V.P! In any case, I totally agree that HRC is far too big for the constricting V.P. spot. --Dana Goldstein
