Patrick Ruffini has built a cool map using recent polling averages to show the state-by-state swing towards Obama since 2004. Deeper shades of blue denote a heavier, pro-Democratic shift in the vote:To give you an idea of the scale, a light blue state like Kansas is showing a swing of eight percent or so. A deeper blue, like Montana, is a swing of 16 points. And a dark blue, like North Dakota, is a 23-point improvement for the Democrat. many of these states, of course, have not been heavily targeted by the campaign: Rather, it's a product of exhaustion with Bush and anxiety over the direction of the country. Indeed, the only state in which Obama has "lost" ground is Massachusetts, and that's predictable given that Kerry was actually from the state. Everywhere else has seen a fairly significant swing towards the Democrat.
