Ezra writes about Ray LaHood proposing a vehicle miles traveled tax. Yglesias prefers a gas tax. Both would be good. They incentivize living closer to one's job, which is good for the environment, for racial and socioeconomic integration of neighborhoods and schools, and for fighting sprawl. That said, I'd practically bet my life against either policy being enacted within the next four years. --Dana Goldstein
