Ben Armbruster over at Thinkprogress is hitting Liz Cheney acolyte Michael Goldfarb for suggesting that former Gitmo detainee Ahmed Ghaliani should have been summarily executed by the CIA while in secret custody:
Armbruster writes that Goldfarb, formerly with the McCain campaign, is an adviser to Sarah Palin as well, so you have here a glimpse of the kind of thinking considered mainstream in some conservative circles. What's remarkable, though, is that this isn't even the most vile thing Goldfarb has ever said publicly. A few years ago, he suggested deliberately killing women and children:
The fight against Islamic radicals always seems to come around to whether or not they can, in fact, be deterred, because it's not clear that they are rational, at least not like us. But to wipe out a man's entire family, it's hard to imagine that doesn't give his colleagues at least a moment's pause.
Ultimately, the distinction between people like Goldfarb and those who offer rhetorical defenses of Islamist terrorism is that they were just born into different teams.
