I know I previously said I wasn't interested in debating whether smearing conservatives as the "American Taliban" is useful as political strategy, but I'm finding myself drawn to Rep. Alan Grayson's attempt to apply the term to his opponent, Republican Daniel Webster, whom he's labeled "Taliban Dan," based in part on his extreme views on abortion. The problem is the video Grayson uses showing Webster suggesting wives must "submit" to their husbands actually shows him saying the opposite in the full context.
I suppose the reason why I find it interesting is that while before, this was an abstract argument -- there weren't any politicians actually adopting Markos Moulitsas' argument against their Republican opponents. If Grayson wins we may see other Democrats following his lead.
