Dan Drezner links us to the Treasury Department web site listing the various political appointees to the agency. There's one name: Timothy Geithner. Word is that Geithner is currently operating 10 percent of the appointees -- which is to say, the senior-level talent -- that Treasury is expected to have. As such, it's little surprise that his proposals have been, at times, a bit vague. "What I don't understand," says Drezner, "is why the Obama White House is not making this staffing issue its first, second, and third priorities right now. Given the gargantuan tasks facing Treasury right now, I guarantee that the deputy and undersecretary positions at 1500 Pennsylvania Ave. are far more important than the Secretary of Commerce." That seems about right. So what's the answer? Maybe Noam Scheiber knows?
