David Kurtz at TPM points us to this insight on Pat Robertson's Giuliani endorsement from Walter Shapiro:
TheWashington press conference announcing the Robertson endorsement wascarefully constructed to make it all look like an alliance ofstrict-constructionist legal philosophers. Introducing thetelevangelist was not the campaign's director of evangelical outreach,or a political figure known for sharing Robertson's literal reading ofthe Book of Revelation. Instead the task fell to Ted Olson, the formersolicitor general in the Bush Justice Department, a leadingconservative legal thinker. The message was clear: This melding ofminds was about putting more Antonin Scalias on the Supreme Court, notabout Giuliani's personal life and beliefs.
I'vebeen saying this for a while now. Giuliani isn't trying to win over theReligious Right by acting as if he's had a coming to Jesus moment onabortion or homosexuality. He's going to appeal to them through thejudiciary.
