Staff Writer Tim: Hey Ann. I know my "unofficial" target for the next issue of the magazine is one article, and that I haven't exactly hit that yet, but since I do have like half an article, that should do fine. We can revisit this discussion at our next meeting in November.
Deputy Editor Ann: Um, your job is producing articles. All of our indicators -- primarily, we have blank pages that you're supposed to fill -- suggest that you ought to write one.
Tim: My hope is that by November, I won't need to write the article. If we do need it, I'll write it then.
Ann: That will be months too late.
Tim: I'm worried that my credibility will be damaged if the article doesn't turn out very well.
Ann: You should be worried that you'll lose credibility for not doing your job!
Tim: No big deal. I'm politically independent.
