Harlan Coben, in an op-ed trying to convince parents to spy on their children more enthusiastically, writes, "One friend of mine, using spyware to monitor his college-bound, straight-A daughter, found out that not only was she using drugs but she was sleeping with her dealer." Oh my God! Your beautiful, white, straight-A child could be sleeping with a crack dealer from Baltimore too! It'll be just like in Traffic! How much do you want to bet that this was one wealthy white kid sleeping with another wealthy white kid who also happened to sell pot? Or possibly hooked his girlfriend -- and him -- with some recreational E? That may not be a parent's dream outcome, but it's a bit different than what Coben is implying to readers of the Times.
