The TSA blog is doing a pretty good job of knocking down a few misleading stories going around such as the idea that Muslim women wearing hijabs aren't subject to the new security measures, but other parts of their "myths and facts" section are a bit of a fail, to put it mildly. For example:
Myth: The TSA pat-down is invasive
Fact: Only passengers who alarm a walk through metal detector or AIT machine or opt out of the AIT receive a pat-down. For this reason, it is designed to be thorough in order to detect any potential threats and keep the traveling public safe. Pat-downs are performed by same-gender officers and all passengers have the right to a private screening with a travel companion at any time.
Obviously "invasive" is a subjective view, but that's exactly why you can't knock it down as a "myth." But try and tell the cancer survivor who had to remove their prosthetic breast that the pat down isn't "invasive." Having a stranger touch you is, for the vast majority of people, invasive. That's why you don't get a pat down when you walk into a McDonald's.
