Jennifer Rubin, who evinces a strong dislike for Muslims when they're not serving as living tributes to the glory of Republican politicians, is still trying to imply that the invasion of Iraq had something to do with the uprising in Tunisia:
Nevertheless, George W. Bush must be pleased to see the debate breakout over the best route to Middle East democracy. It was only a few years that the liberal elite assured us that Muslim self-rule was a fantasy.
Bush's invocation here is also bizarre, as though Muslims had no appetite for democracy prior to his taking office. Rubin is so desperate to give Bush the credit, she can't see Tunisians themselves as independent actors -- they are mere beneficiaries of Bush's generosity and idealism -- even though she hasn't actually provided any evidence that Tunisia has anything to do with Iraq.
Moreover, if the "liberal elite" ever embraced the idea that Muslims were incapable of democratic governance you'd think that Rubin would actually be able to find someone making it.
