Over at Cogitamus, Stephen has a nice takedown of Huckabee's national sales tax idea. The dishonesty of the FairTax group's graphs is actually pretty startling. But more to the point, I think Stephen is right to say, "Look around. People who work hard, can innovate and have high skill levels are compensated quite well for their trouble." This is an unappreciated political fact. It's astonishing how the rich have been able to concertedly deploy their wealth into advocacy groups and ideological fronts that have rendered the estate tax and marginal income rates not only unpopular, but unjust. It's just so hard to be rich in 21st Century America. Pity them! And use public policy to make it easier! As I've been hinting, I'll have more on the policy in a few days, but for now, read Stephen.
