In comparing my experience in a few different work groups and that of my peers, I observed that a “bad union” was almost always paired with bad management.Unions provide another set of constraints for business managers to deal with. But, successfully optimizing to those constraints (in addition to all the others) can mean a more engaged and aligned workforce than you might otherwise achieve.
