The trailer for AMC's adaptation of one of my favorite graphic novels, Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead, is out and it looks amazing (via Gawker):
On a very basic level, this story is like any post-apocalyptic tale--it's about how people preserve the spark of humanity in even in the aftermath of armageddon. But I'm hard pressed to think of any post-apocalyptic storyline done for television--and the thing about movies is they're really ill-suited as a medium to telling this kind of story in a meaningful way. A series allows a story to be told through small evolutions in character, the tiny, daily steps toward corruption that erode the soul. Jimmy McNulty's willingness to cut corners in the early moments of The Wire foreshadow his ultimate willingness to disregard the law completely later on, but that transition wouldn't be as affecting if it happened over the course of two hours. If the producers of The Walking Dead take Kirkman's characters half as seriously, this is going to be an awesome show.
