Jerry Brown is one of the weirder stories in California politics: 35 years ago, he was the avant-garde governor. He slept on a mattress on the floor. He hung out at the San Francisco zen center. He championed Cesar Chavez. He dated singers. He was like a Berkeley student's idea of how a governor should act. And his record looks pretty good in hindsight. So he's running again. But enough context. I just wanted an excuse to post a picture of the official portrait of Brown. It hangs amidst the decorous, conservative pictures of all the other governors. And I sort of love it.
