WESTEN ON THE BRAIN. Today the New York Times profiles Democratic strategist and activist Drew Westen (of whose new book Bill Clinton says, “To say I think it’s a very important book is an understatement”). It's a good time to check out some of Westen's work for the Prospect, including:
- Guns on the Brain: When it comes to gun controls, Democrats fall silent. As with many hot-button social issues, they can't figure out how to reach people's emotions. Here's how they can regain their moral compass -- and their power of speech. (June 13, 2007)
- Branding the Democrats: Staring down the president on the firing of U.S. attorneys sends a message of Democratic toughness. (May 14, 2007)
- Gut Instincts: In 2006, the Democrats belatedly learned to connect with voters emotionally. (November 19, 2006)
