WikiLeaks is apparently on the verge of releasing a large number of Gitmo-related documents. Ironically, the work the Obama administration did organizing that information after it was left in disarray by the last administration probably made leaking it easier.
These documents are clearly of public interest. I would caution, though, that they're probably easily manipulated, much like the low Gitmo "recidivism" rate, in the service of panic and fearmongering. Just as an example, when the Gitmo task force report was released showing that most detainees (55 percent) were foreign fighters who “do not appear to have been selected” for “training geared towards terrorist operations abroad," Marc Thiessen wrote that 95 percent of Gitmo detainees were "confirmed terrorists."
It's possible that the Gitmo documents, if released, would bolster civil libertarian critics who argue that many of those at Gitmo are unjustly detained, or may reveal abuses of power as yet unknown. It seems more likely that whatever the information says, those who have so effectively manipulated public fear of terrorism in the past will have greater means to do so.
