There aren't as many women on the Cabinet speculation lists as one would like. In part, that's because the lists are just theoretical exercises for talking about government, and it's very possible that the Obama team has some different ideas. But one good sign is that the possible names for the post of solicitor general, number four in the Justice Department and traditionally a stepping stone to bigger and better things, are all women. Legal Times reports:
Stanford Law School professors Kathleen Sullivan and Pamela Karlan and Harvard Law School Dean Elena Kagan are possibilities, as well as MetLife litigation counsel Teresa Wynn Roseborough and Morrison & Foerster partner Beth Brinkmann.
Could this be a confirmation of Sam's theory? Maybe, maybe not. But no woman has ever permanently held the post, so it would be something of a milestone.
