WORST. PANEL. EVER? That's probably hyperbolic, but this certainly would make my own idiosyncratic shortlist: "Civility and American Politics," featuring John Boehner and Joe Lieberman. The Politico writes up the discussion. At one point Boehner launched into a discussion of how Democrats aren't serious about national security and "are looking at the next election, looking to public opinion polls ... There are some things more important than the outcome of the next election." Thankfully, Lieberman was on hand to defend the Democrats against such calumnies -- er ...
That point galvanized Lieberman, no fan of opinion polls, Democratic primary voters or the next election. "We can't hold our finger in the air or read public opinion polls to tell us where to go,'' he said. "My God, if those who preceded us had done that, forget where we'd be today!"Lieberman also, of course, decried the "vituperative toxicity" of blogs. ThinkProgress had more about this on Monday.
